Located in northern Europe, France is the world’s most popular
tourist destination attracting an average of 75 million
visitors each year. It is a country of diverse landscapes and a
coastline of over 1,500 miles of beaches fringing the Atlantic,
Mediterranean and English Channel.
In the north west of the country are Brittany and Normandy
with stunning rocky cliffs and sandy beaches and an inland area
full of wonderful small towns and pretty villages. In central
France are the areas of the Loire Valley and Burgundy famous
for its wines, vineyards, castles and mild climate, but
probably the most visited city in France is the capital of this
beautiful country, Paris. Well known for its many attractions
including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Notre
Dame and trips along the River Seine, Paris is also the
ultimate city of fashion.
For those preferring a little more action the French ski
resorts are second to none. The thickly wooded lower slopes of
the Pyrenees form a natural land barrier between France and
Spain and
together with the winter sports resorts of the Alps offer good
skiing and hill walking.
The French Riviera is probably one of the most famous areas
in France attracting many visitors every year and benefiting
from a Mediterranean type climate, characterised by almost 300
days of sunshine a year and mild temperatures during the
winter. Famous resorts like St. Tropez, Cannes and Nice offer
endless sunny beaches, charming towns and many museums and art
galleries.
France is internationally renowned for its cuisine,
particularly its wines and cheeses of which there are 350
varieties to sample. Combine all this with a rich history and
culture and you can appreciate why visitors return year after
year to this truly wonderful country.
